Downtown Merchant Association - Recap of June MeetingThank you to everyone who was able to attend the June - Downtown Merchant Association meeting. A sincere thank you to Lorain Crowl, CEO of United Housing Connections, and the UHC outreach team for providing updates about the impactful outreach and initiatives taking place in downtown Greenville to address homelessness.
If you were unable to attend, please take time to review UHC's 4 Pillar Approach to Outreach which includes: Homeless Task Force, Outreach Program, Panhandling Program and Day Shelter Program. Below are a list of resource materials available to downtown merchants who were in attendance. To request materials to be delivered to your business, please fill out the Panhandling Resource Collateral Order Form by Monday, June 27.

Swamp Rabbit Trail ReopenedThe section of the Swamp Rabbit Trail from Cancer Survivors Park to the Major Rudolph Anderson Memorial is open. The Furman College Way detour remains in place through October for County Square construction.

Sidewalk Closure on 40 W Broad Street for Building Renovation and Awning Removal Clayton Construction Company will be onsite for building renovation at 40 W. Broad Street from June 20 though July 8, requiring a dumpster onsite. A sidewalk closure, due to awning removal, will take place on June 27 through June, 29. The road will remain open to vehicular traffic, but the sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians during the designated three days. Detour routes for pedestrians will be posted. A few parking spaces will be blocked for maintenance equipment during this time.

City Council Approves Final FY2023 Budget
Greenville City Council unanimously gave final approval to a $237 million budget that puts significant focus on traffic and safety improvements, sidewalks, sewer system upgrades and additional personnel to improve customer service. The City will also make targeted investments to support Council priorities including Neighborhoods & Affordable Housing; Economic Development; Recreation, Open Spaces & Sustainability; Mobility and Public Safety.

Urban League Assumes Lease of Historic McClaren BuildingTo preserve the building that housed the McClaren Medical Shelter, City Council on Monday, June 13, approved a ground lease agreement allowing the Urban League of the Upstate to manage the building while the City retains ownership of the land beneath it.

2022 More to Enjoy Sign ApplicationThe City of Greenville is continuing its More to Enjoy wayfinding program, which features newly-designed business directory signs at key Main Street intersections. The purpose of the program is to encourage downtown visitors to discover shops and restaurants located on side streets in the Central Business District by listing business names and providing directional arrows. The signs are designed to be eye-catching, while still incorporating seamlessly into the City’s overall downtown branding campaign.
Submit an application or apply for renewal by filling out the 2022 More to Enjoy application. Space on the signs are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. For questions or more information, please email Cameron Campbell at cjcampbell@greenvillesc.gov.
