Greenville Housing Fund

A 2016 housing study and the resulting report, Balancing Prosperity and Housing Affordability, led to the creation of the Greenville Housing Fund (GHF), a nonprofit entity under the umbrella of CommunityWorks, a 501(c)3 organization and certified community development financial institution.

The Greenville Housing Fund has three goals: serve as an advocate and champion for affordable housing in Greenville, invest in affordable housing development and preservation and acquire land to facilitate affordable housing development opportunities.

While GHF will initially invest in projects that provide affordable housing for households with annual incomes between $15,000 and $55,000, it has the flexibility to move beyond these limits as project and market conditions allow.

City Council Commits $2.5 million

On March 27, 2023, city council voted to commit $2.5 million annually to the Greenville Housing Fund. These funds will partly be focused on single-family home ownership in existing neighborhoods.

GHF Supports Habitat for Humanity

In 2018, GHF awarded a total of $863,000 to Habitat for Humanity, Homes of Hope and Bywater Development to build new affordable housing and preserve existing affordable housing in the city of Greenville.

Habitat for Humanity is building six homes and developing seven rental homes in the Sterling community, Homes of Hope is developing nine rental homes on scattered sites throughout the city and Bywater Development is renovating Stratham Place, preserving 88 affordable rental homes.
